My Bedside Beauty Essentials

Even if you go through most of your beauty routine before going to bed, there are some steps that are easier to do at the very last minute. That’s why almost every girl has some beauty essentials on her bedside table. The best part is that they’re are always there so you’ll remember to use them every night. Here’s a selection of my bedside beauty favourites.

Beauty by Earth Boar Bristle Hairbrush

Finding your ideal hairbrush can take a bit of time. You have to make a choice about size, shape, vented, ceramic…

When it comes to shape, there are flat and round hairbrushes. Choosing the right shape depends on whether you’re trying to flatten your hair or create volume. If you have coarse, dry, thick hair, go for a flat brush. These are ideal for detangling and smoothing your hair down. On the other hand, if you have fine hair, go for a round brush. These are better for creating body, lift, shape, and bend.

When it comes to size, as a general rule, the longer the hair, the bigger the brush. Long hair usually gets tangled up in a smaller brush. So if your hair is quite long, use a bigger brush at night untangle your hair from the bottom up. Starting from the roots puts a lot of unnecessary stress on your strands that can lead to breakage.

Boar-bristle brushes give your hair the most shine. Even though they’re a bit more expensive than their counterparts, these brushes are worth every penny. Natural boar bristles help stimulate the scalp, distributing oils from your scalp throughout the hair shaft to give your hair a healthy, glossy shine.

While boar-bristle brushes are ideal for fine to medium hair, as my hair is quite thick I chose a mix of boar and nylon bristles. My Beauty by Earth Boar Bristle Hair Brush has long nylon pins that are great for detangling my hair at night. And I’ve even noticed less hair shedding since I started using it very night. Remember not to over-brush your hair as you can damage your hair’s cuticle. Three to four strokes are generally enough to remove any knots or reshape your style.

Ao Skincare Restore and Repair

Even though I cleanse my face in the bathroom after brushing my teeth, I leave the last two steps of my beauty routine until I’m tucked into bed. This way I can allow enough time for my serum to absorb before applying my night moisturizer, especially in the heat of summer.

At 31 years old, my main concerns are keeping my skin hydrated and minimizing the signs of aging that are starting to appear in my forehead. I apply one pump of Restore after cleansing my face in the evening. This serum absorbs easily without leaving any heavy or greasy residue.

Restore is packed with peptides and vitamins. One of its key ingredients is spin trap, an amazing antioxidant that works by stabilizing free radicals that are spinning out of control. Free radicals adversely alter lipids, proteins and DNA, and trigger aging. I’ve definitely noticed a glow and more nourished skin since I started using this serum.

I follow with 2 pumps of Repair. This night treatment features bakuchiol, an antioxidant derived from the Babchi plant. Studies have shown it to mimic many of the skincare effects of retinol without the sun sensitivity or skin irritation that some people encounter when using retinol products. Since I started using it, I’ve experienced no more breakouts and some softening of the lines in my forehead.

Aesop Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm

This body balm is somewhere between a butter and a lotion. It works wonders when my hands are feeling a bit dry or itchy, or if I’m suffering from post-shave or wax irritation, especially during summer. It’s enhanced with Vanille and Sandalwood. This nourishing botanicals deliver intense hydration to relieve my skin.

Aromatherapy Lavender & Wild Chamomile Diffusion Set

This diffuser creates a beautiful aroma in my room, infusing the environment with calmness, peace and tranquility. The smell of lavender and chamomile help me relax before I doze off, especially if I’ve had a stressful day.

A Great Big Bottle of H2O

I always keep a bottle of water on my bedside table. Drinking water before going to bed not only helps your body replenish the fluids it loses throughout the day from normal activity but it also balances your hormones, energy levels, muscles and joints. This helps you relax and leaves you feeling rejuvenated in the morning. One of the best benefits of drinking water is that it acts as a natural cleanser. Drinking water before going bed helps your body eliminate any unwanted toxins from your system. Plus you’ll feel better, and have more energy during the day.
